“We take the eve of Ramadhan to once again call on the international community to intervene to stop the Israel atrocities in Palestine, by fulfilling its legal and moral responsibilities to end the suffering.” - The Democrats

Sunday 10 March, Malé: As we begin the holy and blessed month of Ramadhan, and as we gather with our families and communities for fasting and worship, the Democrats would like to draw attention to the plight of our Muslim brothers and sisters in Gaza and Palestine.

Palestine faces their hardest Ramadhan, as violence, starvation, and restrictions in the hands of Israeli occupation and terror increase. Israel has warned of further restrictions on Palestinians’ access to Al Aqsa Mosque, and on worshippers during Ramadan.

In Gaza, Muslims are facing famine as Israel continues to block access to food, and aid. Women and children are included in the people who are being murdered and injured as they try to access food. Mosques across Gaza have been demolished systematically by the Israeli forces. Homes, hospitals and schools are being destroyed, and people are being attacked fatally in places where they seek refuge. Harvest is being destroyed systematically.

As we Muslims begin our holiest month, Muslims in Gaza and Palestine are facing famine and genocide.

We take the eve of Ramadhan to once again call on the international community to intervene to stop the Israel atrocities in Palestine, by fulfilling its legal and moral responsibilities to end the suffering. It is unacceptable that the international community watches on as innocent civilians, women and children are slaughtered, and as a whole nation is being systematically and deliberately annihilated. It is deplorable that the international community accepts the apartheid imposed on Palestine by Israel.

As we wish a blessed Ramadhan to Muslims across the globe, we pray for the millions of Muslims in Palestine and pledge our unwavering support of the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
